Privacy Policy
The short version. Münzo has no user accounts and no servers of ours. Everything you count is stored only on your iPhone. Two third parties are involved and only for a narrow purpose: Google AdMob shows the banner ads in the free version, and Apple handles the purchase of Münzo Pro. Exchange rates are fetched anonymously from a public endpoint that receives nothing about you.
1. Who is responsible
The controller for any processing described here, within the meaning of Article 4(7) of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), is:
Münzo is developed and published by a single individual. There is no data protection officer, because the scale and nature of the processing does not require one under Article 37 GDPR.
2. What Münzo stores on your device
Münzo writes the following into its own storage area on your iPhone. It is written by the app, read by the app and by nothing else:
- Counts and sessions: how many pieces of each denomination you tapped, and the totals derived from them.
- Till data: the names you give your tills, the expected amount you type in, the float, the tolerance and the resulting difference.
- History: past counts you chose to save, with their date and totals.
- Settings: your selected currency, appearance preference and similar choices.
- A cached exchange rate file: the last set of reference rates and the date of the fixing, so conversion works offline.
- Your purchase state: whether Münzo Pro has been unlocked, as reported by Apple.
None of this is transmitted to us or to anyone else. It leaves your device only if you deliberately export a PDF or CSV receipt and share it yourself through the iOS share sheet, in which case it goes wherever you send it. It is included in an encrypted iPhone or iCloud backup only if you have such backups switched on in iOS; that backup is between you and Apple.
3. What Münzo does not do
- No user account, no registration, no sign-in, no password.
- No server, database or cloud storage operated by us. There is nothing of yours on our side to lose or hand over.
- No analytics or product-telemetry SDK, no crash-reporting service reporting to us.
- No access to your camera, photos, microphone, contacts, calendar, health data or precise location. Münzo does not scan money and has no camera capability at all.
- No selling, renting or sharing of personal data. There is none to sell.
4. Advertising in the free version
The free version of Münzo displays banner advertising supplied by Google AdMob. The provider is Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland, for users in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, and Google LLC elsewhere.
To deliver, cap and measure those ads, Google and its ad technology partners process data on the device, which may include:
- device advertising identifiers, including the iOS Identifier for Advertisers (IDFA), which is only made available if you allow tracking when iOS asks;
- your IP address, which implies a coarse location such as country or region;
- device and app information such as device model, operating system version, language, and the identifier of this app;
- ad interaction data such as impressions, clicks and view duration;
- SKAdNetwork attribution signals provided by Apple, which are designed to measure ad performance without identifying you.
Google acts as an independent controller for this processing. What it does with the data is governed by Google’s own terms, which you can read here:
- Google Privacy Policy
- How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services
- Google Ads Services and its ad technology providers
Buying Münzo Pro removes the advertising entirely. Once Pro is unlocked, the ad code is not initialised and no ad request is made.
5. Consent, App Tracking Transparency and how to change your mind
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, Münzo shows a consent form on first launch using Google’s User Messaging Platform (UMP). That form is where you decide whether personalised advertising is allowed, and it records your choice under the IAB Transparency and Consent Framework. If you decline, the free version still shows ads, but non-personalised ones.
Separately, iOS asks its own App Tracking Transparency question: whether Münzo may track you across apps and websites owned by other companies. If you say no, the IDFA is not available to the app or to Google, and no cross-app tracking takes place. Saying no does not restrict any feature of Münzo.
You can revisit both decisions at any time:
- Advertising consent: open Münzo, go to Settings and choose the privacy or ad settings entry to bring the consent form back up.
- Tracking permission: in iOS, go to Settings, then Privacy & Security, then Tracking, and switch Münzo off or on.
- Reset the advertising identifier: in iOS, Settings, Privacy & Security, Tracking, and turn off Allow Apps to Request to Track.
6. Purchases through Apple
Münzo Pro is sold as a one-time in-app purchase through Apple’s App Store using StoreKit. Apple, not us, processes the transaction. We never see and never receive your name, address, payment card or Apple Account details. What the app receives from Apple is a local entitlement saying that this Apple Account has bought Münzo Pro.
As the developer we can see aggregated, anonymised sales and download reports in App Store Connect. Those reports contain no information that identifies an individual buyer. Apple’s handling of your purchase is described in the Apple Privacy Policy.
7. Exchange rates
When you use currency conversion, Münzo requests the European Central Bank daily reference rates from the public endpoint api.frankfurter.dev. The request is a plain unauthenticated GET for the current rate table. It carries no identifier, no account, no device fingerprint and nothing about what you counted. The response is identical for every user in the world.
As with any HTTP request, the operator of that endpoint necessarily sees the originating IP address in its server logs. There is no way to fetch a rate over the internet without that being true. Rates are refreshed at most every six hours and cached on the device, so the number of requests is small, and the conversion screen keeps working offline from the cache.
8. Legal bases
- On-device storage of your counts: this is not processing of personal data by us at all, since nothing reaches us. Where local storage and access requires it, it is strictly necessary to provide the service you asked for (Section 25(2) TTDSG / Article 6(1)(b) GDPR).
- Personalised advertising: your consent, Article 6(1)(a) GDPR, collected through the UMP form, together with Section 25(1) TTDSG for the storage of and access to information on your device.
- Non-personalised advertising and fraud prevention: legitimate interests in financing a free app and preventing ad fraud, Article 6(1)(f) GDPR.
- Purchase and entitlement: performance of a contract, Article 6(1)(b) GDPR, carried out by Apple.
- Support correspondence: our legitimate interest in answering you, Article 6(1)(f) GDPR, or contract performance where the request concerns your purchase.
9. Retention
Data in the app stays on your device until you delete it in the app or delete the app itself. We keep nothing, so we have nothing to delete on our side. If you write to us by email, that email stays in the mailbox for as long as needed to deal with the matter and to satisfy any statutory retention duty, and is then removed.
Retention of advertising data is decided by Google and described in its policies linked above.
10. International transfers
We transfer nothing. Google and Apple may process advertising and transaction data outside the European Economic Area, including in the United States. Both rely on the EU Standard Contractual Clauses and, where applicable, on certification under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. The details are set out in their respective policies.
11. Children
Münzo is a tool for counting cash and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly process data of children under 16. Advertising served in the app is configured for a general audience and is not targeted at children. If you believe a child has provided data through the ad networks, contact us and we will point you to the right process at Google.
12. Your rights
Under Articles 15 to 22 GDPR you have the right to obtain access to your personal data, to have it corrected or erased, to have its processing restricted, to receive it in a portable form, to object to processing based on legitimate interests, and to withdraw consent at any time with effect for the future.
In practice, because we hold no personal data about you, a request to us will usually be answered by saying exactly that. Requests concerning advertising data must go to Google, and requests concerning your purchase to Apple; we will gladly tell you where to send them.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority, in particular in the Member State of your habitual residence, place of work or the place of the alleged infringement (Article 77 GDPR).
13. Changes to this policy
If Münzo gains a feature that changes how data is handled, this policy is updated before that version ships, and the date at the top changes with it. Material changes will also be noted in the App Store release notes.
14. Contact

15. Analytics on this website
This website uses Vercel Web Analytics. It works without cookies, sets no identifier and builds no profile of you. It counts page views and clicks on the App Store button, recording only which button on which page was used. The provider is Vercel Inc., 440 N Barranca Avenue #4133, Covina, CA 91723, USA. Their privacy policy is at vercel.com/legal/privacy-policy. There is no personal evaluation and nothing is passed on to anyone else.
